i'm not sure how to put into words all the feelings from this day. it was very surreal to be participating in all the elements of a event that has become such a part of my life the last 6 years. except this time, instead of viewing it through a camera lens, i was taking everything in with my own heart & soul. one of the biggest gifts of this day was feeling so absolutely present as each moment came & went. most brides and grooms have always told me what a blur their wedding day was but both brian and i talked afterwards about feeling so connected and present-- and that was largely due to the people who surrounded us.  both of us got to spend the morning with friends who have helped shape us into who we are. these are people who have walked the hard & good with us and commit to continuing this journey with us.  when b & i chose to get married in memphis (as a halfway point for our families), we knew it presented a unique dynamic since neither o...

Amalfi Coast | Positano, Italy

Maybe you're like me and this scene always made you think of Cinque Terre on the northern coast of Italy but little did I know that Positano is THE dreamy, colorful cliff scape of the Italian Coast! We skipped the Hike of the Gods this day and instead spent hours exploring Positano's little alleyways and that was truly the best decision! Even though it was very overcast, the colors were still evident at every turn. One thing I've noticed as a photographer is that the majority of images we view when we google places like Positano or Cinque Terre have been edited dramatically to make them seem more vibrant and the colors more saturated. If you've viewed those images prior to actually visiting the location, reality can feel a little dull. So I've done my best to portray colors as I actually saw them-- still incredibly beautiful yet more true to the faded and unwashed hues we witnessed in person. Uganda, Africa | the journey

London: 6 hours ahead of Central time Uganda: 9 hours ahead of Central time Written: Saturday, February 25th, 2012 during the last 50 miles to Soroti {During our 30 minute layover in Chicago, I typed up a really quick post with some photos and added it to the blog-- I even linked it to my facebook --but when I got online in Entebbe, there were no traces of it anywhere- or any traces that I had linked it either. Weird.}  Thursday we got to the Nashville airport around 11 armed with seven 50lb bags and 6 carry ons. Apparently we don’t believe in traveling lightly! haha {Many of those bags contain items we’re taking to various missionaries}   Andrew helped us get all of our baggage checked {he’s the pro at packing & checking them. This is the first time in 7 years he isn’t going on this trip} and then we had some time to sit and visit with our families before heading through security.
