Colmar, France // December 2021

Similar to Strasbourg’s winding streets & canals lined with timber houses, Colmar somehow has even *more* detailed character! And once again, Christmas is a magical time to visit. Shop owners go all out to decorate! The historic center also has a neighborhood called “Little Venice” which is so fitting considering the colorful buildings, quiet streets & canals.

Most of the Christmas markets we encountered previously had cheaply made, imported items but in Colmar we found stalls full of local craftsman so we did a little shopping:) Lots of wandering, more vin chaud (day drinking? won't say no!), crepes & churros with Nutella, hot street food, another cathedral and a seemingly endless amount of Christmas shop windows. A magical place to spend Christmas Eve day!

Fun fact: The Statue of Liberty in NYC was a gift from France to the US in and the artist who sculpted it, August Bartholdi, is from Colmar!

Also, the big rumor while we were there was that Disney based the entire village in Beauty & the Beast off of Colmar but upon further research, I read that it was actually based off of Ribeauvillé. A town 25 min north of Colmar which has incredibly similar vibes. Either way, Belle's voice rings in your head as you walk the cobbled streets:)
