Colmar, France // December 2021
Similar to Strasbourg’s winding streets & canals lined with timber houses, Colmar somehow has even *more* detailed character! And once again, Christmas is a magical time to visit. Shop owners go all out to decorate! The historic center also has a neighborhood called “Little Venice” which is so fitting considering the colorful buildings, quiet streets & canals. Most of the Christmas markets we encountered previously had cheaply made, imported items but in Colmar we found stalls full of local craftsman so we did a little shopping:) Lots of wandering, more vin chaud (day drinking? won't say no!), crepes & churros with Nutella, hot street food, another cathedral and a seemingly endless amount of Christmas shop windows. A magical place to spend Christmas Eve day! Fun fact: The Statue of Liberty in NYC was a gift from France to the US in and the artist who sculpted it, August Bartholdi, is from Colmar!
