a little weekend adventuring to maryland included some d.c. monuments, people watching in annapolis, kayaking in the potomac, lots of photos, a little fishing, some real good food and a whole crew of great friends:) we were blessed.

i'm not sure how to put into words all the feelings from this day. it was very surreal to be participating in all the elements of a event that has become such a part of my life the last 6 years. except this time, instead of viewing it through a camera lens, i was taking everything in with my own heart & soul. one of the biggest gifts of this day was feeling so absolutely present as each moment came & went. most brides and grooms have always told me what a blur their wedding day was but both brian and i talked afterwards about feeling so connected and present-- and that was largely due to the people who surrounded us.  both of us got to spend the morning with friends who have helped shape us into who we are. these are people who have walked the hard & good with us and commit to continuing this journey with us.  when b & i chose to get married in memphis (as a halfway point for our families), we knew it presented a unique dynamic since neither o...

Amalfi Coast | Positano, Italy

Maybe you're like me and this scene always made you think of Cinque Terre on the northern coast of Italy but little did I know that Positano is THE dreamy, colorful cliff scape of the Italian Coast! We skipped the Hike of the Gods this day and instead spent hours exploring Positano's little alleyways and that was truly the best decision! Even though it was very overcast, the colors were still evident at every turn. One thing I've noticed as a photographer is that the majority of images we view when we google places like Positano or Cinque Terre have been edited dramatically to make them seem more vibrant and the colors more saturated. If you've viewed those images prior to actually visiting the location, reality can feel a little dull. So I've done my best to portray colors as I actually saw them-- still incredibly beautiful yet more true to the faded and unwashed hues we witnessed in person. Amalfi Coast // Ravello

Ravello was certainly the quietest Amalfi town we visited. While many of the coastal villages are at sea level, Ravello is set above the Tyrrhenian Sea.  The 13th-century, Moorish style Villa Rufolo offers almost panoramic views of the sea and surrounding terraced gardens. During the summer it hosts popular indoor and outdoor concerts. In addition to its beautiful gardens, my favorite piece about it was the varied tiled floors indoors! So many different patterns! We also toured Villa Cimbrone which is another medieval style estate perched up above the sea with gorgeous gardens. At one point, I wandered off on my own and was using maps to get back to the center of town... but I totally forgot in reading the map that we were on a mountain! So I ended up halfway down the mountain before I realized I was definitely not going to reach the village center that way.
