Amalfi | Coastal Drive

 Driving the Amalfi Coast is simply wild and I don't think there was anything that could have appropriately prepared me for it!

As much research as I had to do to help prepare ladies for this trip, I somehow did not get the right images in my mind as to what all of the coastal towns would be like! There are panoramic views at almost all times with cliffside towns and hidden beaches coming into view at each turn. Terraces of lemon and olive groves cover hillsides and historic churches dot the landscape.

There is ONE two lane road that winds all along the coast and sometimes that two lane road becomes one lane. On top of that, massive tour buses some how squeeze past eachother along the way. Serious driving skills required!

Amalfi Coast | Positano, Italy

Maybe you're like me and this scene always made you think of Cinque Terre on the northern coast of Italy but little did I know that Positano is THE dreamy, colorful cliff scape of the Italian Coast! We skipped the Hike of the Gods this day and instead spent hours exploring Positano's little alleyways and that was truly the best decision! Even though it was very overcast, the colors were still evident at every turn. One thing I've noticed as a photographer is that the majority of images we view when we google places like Positano or Cinque Terre have been edited dramatically to make them seem more vibrant and the colors more saturated. If you've viewed those images prior to actually visiting the location, reality can feel a little dull. So I've done my best to portray colors as I actually saw them-- still incredibly beautiful yet more true to the faded and unwashed hues we witnessed in person. Amalfi Coast // Ravello

Ravello was certainly the quietest Amalfi town we visited. While many of the coastal villages are at sea level, Ravello is set above the Tyrrhenian Sea.  The 13th-century, Moorish style Villa Rufolo offers almost panoramic views of the sea and surrounding terraced gardens. During the summer it hosts popular indoor and outdoor concerts. In addition to its beautiful gardens, my favorite piece about it was the varied tiled floors indoors! So many different patterns! We also toured Villa Cimbrone which is another medieval style estate perched up above the sea with gorgeous gardens. At one point, I wandered off on my own and was using maps to get back to the center of town... but I totally forgot in reading the map that we were on a mountain! So I ended up halfway down the mountain before I realized I was definitely not going to reach the village center that way.
