talk about your pants hangin' low.  found these pants at GW while on the hunt for some linen beach pants. they certainly weren't linen.  or anything close to white. and they needed a bit of altering. but golly were they comfy:) so they came home with me. to be altered. worn. and taken to the beach. the end.  er. beginning. hooray for sewing machines! they fit much better now:) {all photos taken by Lissie}

projects & refashions | spring 2012

About once a month, Thursday becomes my project day. I never plan it that way... but maybe it's a combination of the house being empty & quiet {kids are at classes} and the fact that I usually have most of  my work/must-do's done by Thursday so the day is somewhat free. Here's a round-up of recent projects-- lots of clothing refashions because I hit up GW on their '50% off entire store' day a few weeks ago:) I always come home with at least 2-3 things I love that need some TLC. Enjoy!  this skirt was many sizes too big for me in the waist and hit at an awkward length. Since it already had pleats & a zipper, all I had to do was add two extra pleats in the back to make it my size. Much better! We're goin' vintage 80's here! Never thought I'd be pulling off stuff my parents wore when they were my age but I love this skirt! The print is fun and it's super comfy. Oh, and it has pockets! Score! This one was  big in the waist as well b...

Look of the Day | cobalt, aqua & brown

morning y'all! It's been freezing as of late {40-60 degree temps in April *is* freezing people!} and as such, you'll find me bundled as cozy as I can be inside the house, avoiding the wind. When I got back from Africa, it was 80's and, thinking I'd completely missed spring, I thought it'd be smart to kill two birds with one stone. So as I was unpacking a month of luggage, I packed away *all* of my winter clothes. All long sleeve shirts {even the thin ones} and all my sweaters except for a few thin cardigans. *stupid*, stupid, stupid idea. Needless to say, I've been profusely regretting doing so in the last few weeks! I even had to go digging in the storage room for a pair of tights the other day! And I went to a spring cookout looking like I was dressed for an autumn one-- scarf, tights & lots of layers. Honestly, I'm kinda peeve at myself because I've lived in Indy 6 years and should know how bi-polar the weather is. But I still forget. An...

Look of the Day: Classy & Simple

Image
I'm excited to start working some more typical posts back into the blog as I finish up blogging about my latest travels:) I found this dress at Goodwill on a half off day during the winter. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it at the time but this Sunday I pulled it out to wear for church and loved it!! What got me most excited is that I can wear it to shoot weddings! It's classy, comfy, low maintenance, versatile and most of all: I don't have to worry about flashing people when I move around to get the perfect image!! Woohoo!! Since it's such a basic color, accessory options are endless and I can easily see throwing on a cardigan & tights to make it work for colder weather! Elisabeth took these pictures for me-- with a little more practice she could become my second shooter! Check out the out-of-focus foreground framing going on... and the detail shots!! Rock it sis! {Dress: Goodwill/Calvin Klein | Shoes: Goodwill/Leslie Faye | Clutch: Plato...

January alterations, refashions & misc. projects

Image
It's been a bit slow on the blog here lately, eh?!  Well it sure hasn't been in real life, let me tell you!! But I'm enjoying every minute of it. I love being busy:) Here's a roundup of January's projects... simple tutorials or links to tutorials should go along with each. And if you're needing fresh ideas, head over to the newly revamped  Inspiration page for links to some of my favorite blogs & websites! Shirt Alteration This before picture doesn't do justice to the shirt-- it was *very* stretched out from side to side. Cutting it down to size was super simple.  Turn the shirt inside out and lay flat. Choose a shirt that fits you well and lay it on top of the other shirt. Pin the shirt you're altering so you know where to sew. {Leave a little extra room for working with the armpits.} Sew up the sides & try on for fit. Check to see if/how the armpits need altered. Pin armpits & sew. {It helps to put the shirt on inside out to...
