Amalfi Coast | Positano, Italy

Maybe you're like me and this scene always made you think of Cinque Terre on the northern coast of Italy but little did I know that Positano is THE dreamy, colorful cliff scape of the Italian Coast! We skipped the Hike of the Gods this day and instead spent hours exploring Positano's little alleyways and that was truly the best decision! Even though it was very overcast, the colors were still evident at every turn.
One thing I've noticed as a photographer is that the majority of images we view when we google places like Positano or Cinque Terre have been edited dramatically to make them seem more vibrant and the colors more saturated. If you've viewed those images prior to actually visiting the location, reality can feel a little dull. So I've done my best to portray colors as I actually saw them-- still incredibly beautiful yet more true to the faded and unwashed hues we witnessed in person. The sun did peek out for just a few minutes at one point and it was glorious!

There is a famous essay by John Steinbeck regarding his discovery of Positano in the 1950's and as a result of that publication, the town became a destination and was brought back to life. It's definitely worth a read!

As with most of the towns along the Amalfi Coast, there is ONE narrow road that runs through the middle of it and out the other side! The only way to explore is on foot, up and down the winding steps. Truly a magical place and I would LOVE to visit again on a day when the beaches are full!
Oh and you must visit Casa e Bottega if you go. The most delightful lifestyle store + cafe on the coast!
