these are just ramblings... but if you're up for a little lazy, saturday mornin' reading, here you are. grab your mug of hot stuff first:)
this morning i woke up to the sounds of a thunderstorm coming through my open window and my phone vibrating like crazy. apparently i proceeded to schedule a photoshoot whilst still in a groggy morning state! not a good idea cause who knows what i told her, or didn't tell her. but i'm not too worried. it was one of the sweetest women i get to work with each week and she'll understand. we'll talk about details soon; before the day of the shoot.
today was the day we had set aside to plant our garden and get all those yummy fresh veggies grown'. but true to indiana weather, yesterday the forecast said it would be sunshine and today it's raining.
for once i don't mind so much. this is one of those perfect rainstorms where you leave your windows & doors open just so you can listen to it. so it can be the background music for your day. today is one of those great days to work on inside projects. or curl up cozy with a mug in one hand and book or journal in the other. to dream & remember other rainy days. especially those when i had water fights with siblings in the rain or went swing dancing with friends in the rain. those are marvelous memories:)
yesterday i went to do a shoot with a super fun family that i've just met recently. all the kids are grown and the shoot was so easy and quick! i'm so used to working with families who have little chillens and you do lots of arrangements & take lots of pictures... just hoping there's a few where everyone is looking/smiling! since the shoot was shorter than i had planned, i went to run a few errands afterwards.
i keep getting $10 off coupons from dsw. did you know that you can combine up to three of them? and get $30 off?! pretty sweet if you ask me! so i went and used a few that i had and came away with some cute nautical rope sandals. a treat, since i wouldn't have purchased them otherwise:)
stopped at goodwill next and found a fabulous vintage leather briefcase/satchel. when i got it home, i asked mama if she thought it looked manly. "don't you dare think of getting rid of it!," she replied, "if nothing else, you can give it to your future husband someday!" haha
well mama. i'm sure not looking as far down the road as you are and don't have space to store things for "someday, maybe" but if i still have it when i get married and the mister likes it, i'm sure he'll be welcome to it. in the meantime. it's a good thing it isn't "too manly" and i'll put it to use cause i like it a bunch and it's a keeper:)
last stop was at half price books. haven't been there in ages! during my senior year in high school, i used to stop by there every few weeks to get old magazines for .50 ea which i then used for decoupage projects. this time around i was on the hunt for stationary. when i didn't find any {i'm talking about sheets, not cards} i wandered back to the clearance corner. that's a wonderful place you know. books for $3 or less. mmmmhmmm. i love books, but i hate spending lots of money on them. so that corner is the perfect place for me:) i found the sweetest set of brand new Jane Austen books, cranford, and an agatha christie mystery-- all for $2 each. i bought them for ellyn because she loves all of those and it's about time she had some books of her own... that she can take with her someday.
later that evening, after i got home, daddy asked me to bake some cookies to take to the new neighbors. you know something? every time i read a cookie recipe, it makes me want to write a book full of cookie recipes written the way my mama taught me. butter/shortening, sugars, eggs, vanilla, most of the flour, baking soda/powder mixed in with the last 1/2 cup of flour. honestly. why are dry ingredients always listed first?! it drove me nuts as a kid because i was "just following the recipe" but then nothing ever mixed well when i dumped the butter & eggs into the flour & sugar! eventually i learned to "follow" but "not follow" the recipe...but it still drives me nuts. you taught me well mama.
ellyn stayed with a friend last night so lissie & abigirl crashed in my room. they're sleeping still. all wrapped & curled up in their blankets. the room is quite cozy, bathed in lamplight. i feel like this rainy morning calls for a spectacular breakfast of crepes or something....hmmm. maybe i should get on that.
cheers to your rainy day! what's keeping you busy?
