This is definitely one of those projects that was out to give me a challenge and prove me wrong on everything from the very start!
It all began 2 years ago when I was looking for an alternative to a jewelry shelf that kept falling off of the wall.
My friend Eleanna gave me the idea to frame chicken wire & use small hooks to hang the jewelry. Over time, that original idea morphed into many different options but in the end I came back to a simple board {that I planned to decoupage} with lots of small hooks.
It took me almost 2 years to find the right frame for less than $20 but a few weeks ago I finally snagged the perfect antique frame at Goodwill for $13!! {and I must have been in lala land that day because I *almost* didn't get it!!}.
I thought I was on the verge of being able to turn my vision & ideas into reality!
But I ended up having to spend more money than planned on materials & then on top of that, several things went wrong as I was putting it together. {What happened to this being such a simple "cover board, attach hooks to board, attach board to frame & hang frame" project?!}
In not wanting to spend more $$ on materials, I had to temporarily throw most of my project vision out the window and work with what I had. Thus, though it does match our bathroom well, I will probably redo some things in the future...such as adding more hooks & making the colors neutral {definitely keeping the frame gold though! I love that!}.
Anywho! This isn't a tutorial-- more like inspiration. There are so many ways you could put one of these together. I just hope yours goes together more smoothly than mine did!
This is where our jewelry has been for the last two years. Sitting in a dark closet. {trust me. it's every bit this dark and so hard to find what piece you want to wear!}
Excuse the messy shelves. Organizing them is the next thing to work on now that the necklaces are out of there!
Now the jewelry has been set free!! {and will probably get worn more often now that it can be seen!}
Hanging in our bathroom... which has more light than the pictures show.
Thoughts? Questions?
Huzzahh!! You finally did it!! It looks faaantastic I might add. I love seeing necklaces you've made hanging on those hooks. It just makes it all the more special. :)
