warthers museum.

it's a slow, contemplative morning here on the eastern shore of virginia. the sky is a smouldering gray, just waiting to pour rain over us. the smell of omelettes comes from the stove where mama is cooking while josh garrels adds to the mood in the background. he's not exactly your typical worship leader but i love worshipping the Lord in the mornings through his songs... among others >> season of rain, pilot me, bread & wine, the resistance , rabbit and the bear...
we spent yesterday relaxing and reading on the beach and kayaking a bit, then after a delicious dinner on the expansive front porch, we went back to watch the sun set (pictures coming soon:)). absolutely lovely.
i adore how friendly everyone is here (hello south!) and sunday morning we walked to church. **walked**!!! the beach is 4 1/2 blocks away, town (and coffeshop;)) is 3 blocks & church is 2 1/2. perfect!

but back to last week. these images are from the day we explored the warther carving museum in dover, ohio.   mr. warther was an incredibly tallented man and one of the best carvers in the world though he only finished 2nd grade. the tour guide spent over 2 hours telling us all about his work and it was beautiful. you can always appreciate things so much more when you know the story behind them:) his grandson joined us at one point and made a pair of plyers for each of the chillens. when the elder mr. warther was alive, he could carve a pair of plyers in 10 seconds and made a pair for every child he ever met. he collected arrow heads while his wife collected buttons and they both created mosaics from their treasures... which were then mounted in a little shed called "the button house":) when mr. warther started carving, he couldn't find a knife that worked well for him so he made his own. then to make a living and provide for himself and later his family, he began making kitchen knives for his mother and her friends and that developed into the family knife making business that is still alive today!
