Uganda, Africa | the markets

I have two posts hitting the blog today in an effort to get through these posts a little more quickly so check back again later!

There were two markets in Soroti. The main market -with food, new clothes and everything in between- and the used clothing market. Then people had shops set up in buildings and stalls along the street. We also passed many markets & shops during our drives to Kapelebyong, Murchision Falls & Kampala.

making Chappati-- a thick tortilla which was the bread staple at most meals
we would always pass many people sleeping at their booths in the market...sometimes with babies
*everyone* has cell phones because there's no such thing as a landline in Uganda anymore. They even access their email & Facebook on their little phone screens just like we do! Minutes are purchased as you go- kind of like TracFones
Africans love Pres. Obama! We asked them if it was because of his skin color or his beliefs and they said because of his skin color. Now Europeans on the other hand, we found out, love him because of his beliefs. So we were the odd ones out our entire trip!! (And obviously we have *no* problem with a black person being president-- it's his policies we don't care for. If you don't agree, please don't bring political comments to the blog. I was merely sharing that to help give perspective}
Have fun finding your matching shoe!
{these sewing machines, along with their seamstresses, were all over Soroti!}
fancy shoes like these were plentiful in the market but even at church we rarely saw people wearing such nice heels. Even if you could afford them, they are far from practical since a)the ground is pitted & uneven everywhere & b)you most likely have to walk several miles to get to church.
 {even Smurfs have made it to Uganda! we saw the most random t-shirts & Western items everywhere!!}

    Obviously this blog isn't solely for the purpose of my travels {though that does have a part!} so I'll be back to usual blogging in the next few weeks:)
