seattle | part three

from pikes place, we headed to ballard to find a place to eat. it's such a cute town and as we parked we got really excited to explore the little shops that were still open at 5:30p.  but then, as if all the other trouble we'd had that day wasn't enough, the key wouldn't come out of the ignition! "oh, this has happened to me before", i said, as i cranked the wheel hard to the left, stepped on the brake & pulled on the key. nope. it wasn't budging. it was turned forward just one notch & stuck there. you know, so the lights are on & the door goes ding when you open it. yeah. so for 20 minutes we tried everything trying to get this darn key out so we could get going! we were super hungry by this time and just couldn't believe we were dealing with yet another obstacle! we sat there praying, "Lord, do you just want us to go back to where we are staying? is there some reason you don't want us to leave the car?"
finally after trying everything we could think of, we got two daddy's on the line (what would we do without our dads?!) who suggested everything we had already tried + some. none of that worked so they got on google, trying to figure out what was going on! we even drove around the block and reparked, thinking something with the gears was messed up or something. after 30 minutes of trying, we were about to give up. as i went to slam the gear into park one last time, a phone charge cord slipped out of the way, the car went completely into park and the key came right out. gahhh!! di we ever feel dumb! but i suppose you live & learn, right?!
we had a delicious dinner of thin crust pizzas, mascarpone/pistachio/balsamic beets, mac 'n' cheese, salad & brocolli at Hi-Life. Definitely check it out if you're ever in Ballard. yummy food!
we finished off with desert at Cupcake Royale- the #1 cupcake place in Seattle.  their ice cream was delish & i loved the unique flavors but their cupcakes definitely didn't measure up to #1. maybe it was just the end of the day & they had been sitting out... but we didn't think they were the greatest!
we stayed up getting to know our hosts (super wonderful friends of friends!), repacking, editing & chatting until we fell asleep:)
