l'armoire part 1

As I was drafting this post, it kept getting longer and longer!! So I've split it up into 3 parts which will come in pretty quick succession-- keep checking back!

I did it. I pulled out my fall.winter wardrobe from storage. No need to go shopping anytime soon (which is good since I don't have $$ to).  AND since I'm not putting away my summer wardrobe yet, I've got endless outfit combos to come up with! {My closet is also temporarily crammed since I hang everything but pj's, excersize clothes, grunge clothes & underthings}

Putting out of season clothes in the storage room when they are, well, out of season is one of the best things I've ever done! Not only does it free up space in my closet but every few months I get a whole new wardrobe!
I do one other major thing at the same time as I'm switching seasonal clothes to give space in my closet for new items. It something that also helps me to keep a wardrobe with only pieces I love and will wear.

 At the end of each season, as I'm incorporating the new season's clothes, I take a close look at the clothes I'm putting away in storage. I mentally ask the following questions as I'm folding them into a box. Most things that get a negative check find their way into the purge bag.
 {There are always a few items that are iffy and go to storage to be decided about the next season}

  • Did I wear it very much during this season?  If not, do I see myself incorporating it into the next season's wardrobe?
  • Is the fabric of this item worn? {especially sweaters/tops that tend to ball}
  • Is this to big or small? Or did it just really not work in the first place?
  • Lastly, is it just simply time to move on this much loved item?! {as in- after this seasons swap-around, I realized I still had a few pieces from when I was 12 & 13!! And though they were still in great condition and fit fine, it was *definitely* time to move them on!}

On the other side of things. As I'm doing the swap, I also end up pulling items that have been in storage the last several months and stick them in the purge bag as well. Maybe they were those iffy items I couldn't decided about before. Or sometimes they are just items that I can tell right away won't get anymore use.
In the end, the purge bag typically goes to a friend or two before dropping the rest off at Goodwill. {Except this time around, I'm trying something a little different so be on the lookout!!}

Check back soon for parts 2 & 3

xoxo,
em
