Earlier this spring I got the call from molls announcing her
engagement to landon. This relationship was something we had prayed over before
it even began and had watched blossom in just the right timing. it’s always
beautiful to reach a moment where you can look back over a season and see how
incredibly faithful the Lord’s been. While
we were on the phone she excitedly shared their wedding date and asked if I
would stand with her on that day. I was blown away, honored & so excited! Then it dawned on me that several months before, I had
booked a wedding in Memphis for the day before her wedding. But it wasn’t the very same day so I figured
we could make something work.
After looking into all other travel options, it became clear
that the only way for me to get from Memphis to Indianapolis in time for the
wedding would be to drive through the night after I finished up Friday nights
wedding. No way could I do that on my own, so I tossed it up on facebook to see
if anyone was interested in joining me. our friend Tasia graciously stepped up
and said she would help me drive. Little did we know that by the time our
travel plans rolled around a few months later, we’d be roommates!
Fast forward through a crazy summer and a stressful house
search, we moved into our new home with Devin just two weeks ago. by that time,
this trip was looking a lot more daunting but Tash stuck with me and around 11p
last Friday night, after a long work day, we headed north. This woman is such a champ and I’m so
thankful for her! She drove a 15 passenger van for the first time ever (we were
also picking up some furniture in Indy for our new home) straight through the
toughest hours of the night and we pulled into town at 7:30a Saturday morning. No
way I would have ever made it on my own!
Saturday was a whirlwind of wedding festivities &
catching up with dear friends—that could be a blogpost in and of itself—and
then Sunday we saw my family briefly at church before heading home.
We stopped in Louisville for lunch on our way south and got to try a
restaurant called The
Garage. I’ve always seen it on past trips and it’s such a
fun place- please appreciate those ping-pong tables! Its the perfect place for summer
evening gatherings or Sunday brunch. I rarely eat out but little spots like this one
that inspire my cooking at home are high on the list if I do. We shared an
order of beignets, delicious roasted potatoes & a creamy corn + bacon pizza
and it was better than it looks!
Tash and I have gotten to know eachother a little bit since
the spring but I’m so thankful for all the time we had in the car during this
trip to go deep and hear eachothers hearts. We get to share daily life together
now as roommates for a season and i’m already learning so much from her! She is
so good at asking lots of questions & listening well, caring for our little
home and making those around her feel valued.
I’ve already seen compassion, thoughtfulness, intentionality, mercy,
gentleness, intelligence & an adventurous spirit in her and she pursues the
Lord’s heart so well. Can’t wait to see how God continues to grow us this
next year!
