after lots of change in plans, i drove 8 hours to indy in the pouring rain (literally, it rained the entire drive:/) to spend 4 days with my family over christmas. SO worth it! being immersed in the chaos & activity of this crew is the best feeling in the world. there's always *something* happening- whether you join in or simply rest.
we took this christmas slow and loved every minute of it. on christmas eve, most of us chillens slept out by the tree and woke up to share gifts christmas morn. instead of dressing up and having our usual christmas feast, most of us stayed in our pj's all day and shared a simple meal of soup. we love the traditions we normally hold to but once in a while it's beautiful to try something different!
"we grew up unaware that our yearly routines were sowing & tending traditions. the rituals engulfed & enveloped us, and our youthful naiveté told us that this was just life-- how our holidays were done. only with age, and a healthy dose of selflessness, have we seen that this rhythm of delight & anticipation is the careful & thoughtful product of a family or parents that want to experience life together." -rebecca parker payne
