today we went to a great big family reunion on our way home from vacation and it was wonderful to catch up with dear relatives as well as meet some really extended family for the first time. everytime i think about my extended family, i can't help but be incredibly grateful for the blessings that have been lavished on our lives.
this afternoon focused on some of my great-great-aunts & uncles/grandparents and the legacies they left, but i'm super appreciative of the legacy my grandpa has worked so hard to rebuild & leave for the generations to follow him. along with his incredible and redeeming life story, he has been married to my grandma for 57 years. how wonderful is that?!
after the reunion, we spent the evening with my grandparents & uncle's family.... and as we left, grandpa walked me across the parking lot with his arm around my shoulders. i don't even remember what we talked about, but i'll remember that walk for years to come. just like i'll never forget the time he came and danced with me at my graduation. his time and affection are incredibly special to me and i know that i can't take them for granted. it's a beautiful thing to have had both sets of grandparents for all of my twenty years... i don't think all my siblings will even get to say that.
